A great day enjoyed by all – Review and Results from 14th April

The Bedale point-to-point lived up to its reputation as the most sociable point-to-point in the North, as an enthusiastic crowd enjoyed seven competitive races in the sunshine.

Following weeks of inclement weather and plenty of hard work from the committee to ensure the meeting could go ahead, the sun made a welcome appearance on Saturday afternoon for a feel-good atmosphere at the stunning Hornby Castle venue.

The Hornby Castle track drains well and was officially posted as Soft, Good to Soft in places for the meeting. The decent racing conditions and generous prize money, notably in the George F. White Mens’ Open and Silk Family Law Ladies’ Open, which both boast purses of total £1000, ensured good field sizes, with as many as 17 going to post for the MazarsOpen Maiden.

A new addition this year was the Dodson & Horrell PPORA Novice Riders’ Qualifier, which the Bedale was pleased to host following abandonments earlier in the season. This race preceded the Hornby Challenge Cup Ride which saw seven intrepid horses and riders tackle a lap and a half of the Hornby Castle course at eventing speed, and the afternoon’s entertainment concluded with the broadcast of the Aintree Grand National on the McClarrons Insurance Giant Screen.
